Poinsettia Day

Dear world,
I heard that today is Poinsettia Day. So I wanted to find out more about Poinsettias. Well, they are native to Mexico. They are named after Joel Robert Poinsett, the first Ambassador to Mexico who brought the plant back to his greenhouse in South Carolina in 1825. They used to be called Cuetlaxochitl by the Aztecs. (Can you imagine trying to pronounce that?) Poinsettias are the best selling flowering potted plant in the US. And my state, California, is the top producing state. And my town, San Diego, hosts the Poinsettia Bowl! And Poinsettias do make very pretty props for pictures, don't ya think?

Happy Poinsettia Day!

Love always,

Bear

hile we have them here, our favourite christmas plant is the native christmas bush which also has red flowers, but much smaller and not quite as red.
