Halloween decision

Dear world,
Well its finally Halloween and I have to decide what to wear. I narrowed it down to six choices. I like them all but I do have some concerns. Cookie Monster (will I be too hot?) Genie (will I be expected to grant wishes?) Devil (will I trip on my cape?) Biker (do I need a bike?) King Tut(can I balance the hat?) Rocket (how will I walk?)
Which is your favorite?

Happy Halloween!

Cookie Monster

Dear world,

I tried to think of a Halloween costume that may have some benefits besides looking ridiculous (or adorable as my Mom says.) So as I was perusing the cookie shelf, it came to me. Cookie Monster! So every time I wear this costume I get cookies. And of course I got cookies for my photoshoot since they were my props. Brilliant idea if I must say so myself!

Genie Bear

Dear world,
While perusing ideas for Halloween outfits I thought what must it like to be a genie? Well, I think it must be really wonderful to be able to be able to grant three wishes. And you get to wear a really cool hat. I am just not sure how I would fit into that lamp. But, if I could be your genie, what would you wish for?

Happy Birthday Liberty!

Dear world,

Today is the Statue of Liberty's birthday. I know it is not polite to tell a lady's age, but this is educational. She is 125!! I think she looks so much younger, probably since she had work done 25 years ago. But now she's going to have more work done. I guess she needs to stay young to be in good shape for all future generations. She has an important job as the symbol of freedom and democracy. I wish I could see her in person, rather, in statue, to wish her a very happy birthday.

Devil Bear

Dear world,
In perusing ideas for Halloween, I thought maybe I should consider something more traditional. So I got out my horns and cape but it was just not enough. Then I remembered that now that I am nine years old I should be dressing to the nines. So I got out my bowtie. Yes, I think that completes the look for Devil Bear. Quite dashing, don't ya think?

Rocket Bear

Dear world,

Space has always fascinated me. Ever since I got my astronaut bear I have wondered what it must be like to travel in space. So when I was perusing Halloween ideas it got me to thinking. What would it be like to be a canine rocket? I think I would get scared of the speed. I don't even like going fast in my Mom's station wagon. Cool concept though.

Grand Poohbear

Dear world,
Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble were members of the Loyal Order of Water Buffalos Lodge No. 26. They wore really cool hats when they went to the lodge. So when I put on my Water Buffalo hat it got me to thinking what it would be like to belong to a club like that. I think I would want to run for office-- to be the Grand Poohbear.

King Tut

Dear world,

I felt it would be appropriate to dress as King Tut. He began his reign as a pharaoh in Egypt when he was nine years old, and I just turned nine years old! Another commonality is that we are both Goldens. He was the the Golden (King) and I am the Golden (Bear) . And I am sure that he looked just as good in his hat as I do. I wonder if he liked tennis balls?

BikerBear

Dear world,
Well, the costume doesn't exactly fit my personality , but I see no reason why I can't be ubercool, at least for Halloween. And I am very comfortable dressed in my helmet, vest and cuff. Maybe there is a different side to me somewhere deep down in my brain. Yah. BikerBear. Now, all I need is a motorcycle.

Pumpkin Patch

Dear world,

Yesterday we went to two Pumpkin Patch places. Of course we couldn't be like normal dogs and just go naked. Nope. There I was with Rosy dressed as pumpkins. At first Rosy was OK with it. But at the other pumpkin place a lot of people were looking at us and Rosy got way too embarrassed. So she tried to get the costume off. But then she ended up looking like a scarecrow with hay all over her. I hope Mom doesn't get any ideas and make me be a tinman to match Rosy.

SpiderHead Bear

Dear world,
The other day Mom came home with this big purple spider. I thought Cool! We will be doing Halloween decorations. I should have known better. I will be the Halloween decoration. I hope none of my friends have arachnophobia (fear of spiders).
Stay tuned for all my Halloween outfits... you know my Mom, I have lots.

Mickey Mantle's Birthday

Dear world,

Today is Mickey Mantle's birthday. He was one of the greatest baseball players of all time. I looked at a picture of him and tried to imagine what it must have been like to be on the team with Mickey Mantle. Well, that would make me a New York Yankee. That would be pretty cool usually. But this year I would rather be a St. Louis Cardinal or Texas Ranger!

Swimming with dolphins

Dear world,
The other day at the beach we saw dolphins in the distance. How cool! I told my Mom that I would love to go swimming with the dolphins. Maybe I could meet one and we could be swimming buddies! I asked Mom if I could swim out to see them. She told me that it is too far for me. I told her I would wear a life jacket. And there it was... the Mom eye roll.

California girls

Dear world,

I went to the beach the other day and again more girls! This time I made friends with Miley, the Black Lab and Tater the Goldendoodle. They loved playing with me and I had so much fun.

But all these days at the beach with girls get me to thinking about the girl friends I had in Memphis like Sophie and Pearl. I wish they all could be California girls.

Cafe Society

Dear world,

Ever since Rosy visited Hollywood last year, she loves going to cafes. So since Rosy hasn't been able to go for awhile, the whole family went to Americana for breakfast the other day. It is the absolutely perfect place for humans to take their dogs in Del Mar. Mom and Dad really like their food. For us canines, not only do they immediately give us a water bowl, but they have a help yourself cookie jar by the door! (And did I mention Rosy got goat cheese from Mom and I got some of Dad's turkey sausage!) We love being part of cafe society!

Channeling Katy Perry

Dear world,
Rosy got so inspired by the cover of the October issue of InStyle magazine. As soon as she saw it, she insisted she must have pink hair. Thinking of a fabulous photo opportunity, Mom of course obliged and set out to find a wig for Rosy. Along the way she also found a fancy skirt. I thought it was a great Halloween costume, and Rosy got insulted. She loves her new pink hair.

Pawloose

Dear world,
The movie Footloose just came out. Its a remake of the one from the 80's. When I saw some of the movie trailers it got me to thinking. I really don't know why they did an exact remake when they could have done a similar concept about dogs..Pawloose. Imagine dogs breaking free from their leashes and dancing! Maybe I should try writing the screenplay.

Perfect Nap

Dear world,

Mom got this email introducing PodTime Sleep Pods - 110 feet of mattress and cube proclaimed a "sanctuary for rest in an otherwise busy environment" - a "perfect nap space". Well that got me to thinking that maybe I could use a Podtime. Then I could just go inside, close the frosted door, set the optional alarm clock and not be disturbed until it is time to go to the beach, play ball, or eat. It would be perfect to put in my office. Problem is, I don't have an office. I guess I will continue to nap on my dog bed.

Wooden Cowboy

Dear world,
The other day when I was on a walk through town I saw this wooden cowboy. So I walked around a bit to see if there was Wooden Indian friend for him. Nope, no cigar store in site. Too bad. It would have been interesting to see them play a Cowboy and Indian game. They would just have to watch out for termites.

Rosy's obsession

Dear world,

The other day we took a family outing to PetCo. Mom wanted Rosy to try on some harnesses, but Rosy was much more interested in something else. You may think that would be toys, treats or bones. Nope. Her obsession is with carrying cases. She has a black case which she wants to spend much of the day in lately. But she saw the same one in red, knocked it off the shelf with her nose and wanted Mom to buy it. Mom said that she doesn't need more than one bag. Rosy asked-- but why do you have more than one bag? Good question Rosy.

Lucy and Lulu

Dear world,

I was so excited the other day at the beach. I saw Lucy and Lulu, my friends from when I used to live here in 2010 (and I actually had a picture of them from last year!) Well, the other day Lulu didn't feel like playing, so I played with Lucy! Yes, another girl for me! When did I become such a chic magnet?

Columbear?

Dear world,
Today is the second Monday of October so it is time to celebrate Columbus Day. However, it was actually on October 12 in 1492 when Christopher Columbus was sailing that he discovered the Americas. So that got me to thinking. What if I set out on a boat to sail the ocean blue? I wonder what I could discover!

Happy Columbus Day!

My Little Big Sister

Dear world,
Rosy went for her post surgery check-up. I was so proud of her cause she got an A+. So now she is allowed to take 10 minute walks with me a few times a day. But instead of walking in front of her and have her follow me like I usually do, I walk next to her to protect her and make sure she is OK. She cant play ball yet or come to the beach, but at least she was let out of house arrest. I really have missed normal life with my little big sister!

Leftovers

Dear world,
Rosy's fave food is chicken soup. And since she can't have her regular food, Mom gives her chicken soup with meds and food. But she can only have the broth . That got me to thinking what Mom should do with the leftovers. So I offered to help by eating the chicken, noodles and even the carrots. Mom said that was very considerate of me.

Chasing Shelby

Dear world,
YaY. I got to go to the beach again! I keep meeting girls! This time I met Shelby, a Golden Retriever like me. I really liked playing with her. She loved when I chased her (I think). She played really hard to get. She is very pretty but I think she is too young for me and I dont want to rob the crate.

RIP Steve Jobs

Dear world,

The world lost a really great man yesterday. He had a big impact in the world. He was a technology superhero. He made stuff that we didn't know we couldn't live without. He made saying "i" all the time a good thing. I know if he would have lived longer he could have built an iPaw for us canines. RIP Steve Jobs.

Happy Teacher's Day

Dear world,

Today is World Teacher's Day. We all should celebrate and thank our own teachers and all teachers around the world for the important job they do. I myself never went to school, but my Mom has been my teacher. So thanks Mom!

Thinkers

Dear world,
For my birthday I got these treats named Thinkers labeled "Smart Dog Snacks". I picked them out because I am a Thinker and told I am a smart dog. When I got home and had one, I thought I was a pretty smart dog cause they are delicious! Then I read the back label and it said that it is the pet owners that are the Thinkers and the Snacks that are smart! It is obviously a human who wrote the back label copy.

Dirt Roll

Dear world,
When I lived in Memphis I used to love rolling in the grass. Well, there is no grass here, only sand and ocean ... that is NOT a complaint. So the other day, when I was walking back from the beach I was terribly itchy. So I decided to try rolling in dirt. Once Mom stopping her uncontrollable laughter, she took pics, gave me a bath, and made a Vet's appointment. I barked "I am dirty, not sick!" But I went, got a shot and pills for my itch and was told to stay out of the water for a week. Bummer! OK, so much for dirt rolling.

Home again

Dear world,

Rosy finally came home from the hospital today. Seems like deja vu -- I just blogged the same thing only a few weeks ago! For those that don't know, she had to have another neck surgery. Poor Rosy! Now she is back under house arrest again --stay in the cage, only come out to go to the bathroom. And this time she even has to eat what looks like prison food. She can't have hamburgers or chicken like last time. (Bummer, I got the extras). Mom said it will be 8-12 weeks before she can play ball with me again. Another bummer. But at least she is home and that makes me (and Rosy and Mom and Dad) very happy.

Cardiff Kook

Dear world,
I heard about this surfer statue in Cardiff-by-the-Sea and just had to go see it. It is named The Magic Carpet Ride, but everyone calls it the Cardiff Kook. Most of the surfing community doesn't like it cause they say it is unrealistic and looks like a skinny novice surfer that is about to fall off his board. I, a soon to be novice surfer think the Kook is cool. I can also relate to him since people often dress him up in all sorts of gear - Zorro, Pumpkin Head, Santa Claus, Uncle Sam, etc. I wonder if my Mom has anything to do with that.
