Poodle Fur

Dear world,
I am a little concerned. Ever since Rosy came, my fur is starting to curl more. I used to only have a little curl around my shoulder blade. But now when I get wet, half my back is curly and looks like poodle fur. Uh Oh. Is poodle fur contagious?

Dorothy and the Wizard

Dear world,

Rosy's hair had gotten so long that Mom discovered she could braid her ears! So she did and she even put little bows on them. Mom thought she looked like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. Personally, I thought Rosy looked a lot more like Toto. Rosy didn't want to look like Dorothy or Toto. She asked me to put on my wizard hat and use my magic powers to make her look like Rosy again. And the Spa Mobile drove up! And there was beautiful Rosy again! The great and powerful Wizard Bear!

Smurf Bear

Dear world,
The new Smurf Movie came out today. Those little smurfs are so cute. It got me to thinking what it must be like to be a Smurf. Well first of all I need to shrink cause I would be only three apples high. And I need to start barking in smurf. It would be cool not to get older. But if I am blue, can I still be a Golden?

Lasagna Day

Dear world,

When I found out Lasagna Day was tomorrow, I asked Mom if she would make us Lasagna. I never had Lasagna, but I know Garfield likes it. She said she doesnt have time and besides Dad doesnt like it. I told her she could just buy a Lasagna so I could have another cultural experience. Well she went to the grocery store and I saw the Lasagna box! I told Rosy maybe if we gave a big smile Mom would make it for us tomorrow!

Not amused

Dear world,

While cleaning out a closet, Mom found this wig. I thought Uh Oh, and I was right. So of course I had to put on the wig so Mom could take pictures and laugh hysterically. I was not amused. Then Rosy came over to see what was going on. I tried to warn her, but she is always so curious. She was not amused either. Well at least we got cookies.

Happy Birthday Mick!

Dear world,
Today is Mick Jagger's birthday. Obviously he is a rock legend. But his mouth is also legendary. In pictures, he always has this huge smile. So it got me to thinking. Maybe, like me, he is waiting for somone to throw him a ball. But again like me, he doesnt get to play fetch as often as he wants. So hence maybe that is why he can't get no satisfaction or he cant always get what he wants. I know exactly how he feels.

Happy Birthday Mick!

Tuna addict

Dear world,
After Rosy had her teeth pulled last month, the vet suggested she have some tuna oil. So Mom got her a can of tuna. Well since then, Rosy is totally obsessed. Dad often opens a can of tuna for lunch. The minute she hears the can open and gets a whiff of tuna smell she runs over and won't take her eyes off Dad. Well of course, Dad can't resist her, so she always gets some. Do you think she is part kitty?

Wizard Bear

Dear world,

I found this Wizard hat the other day and it got me to thinking. Maybe if I wear it I will have magic powers. So I put it on and wished it to be cooler. Well that didn't work so I went inside and it was cooler. Then I wished for more tennis balls. When I went over to my basket, there were so many more. Mom said those were the ones she found under the couch. Then I wished for pizza. When I went into the kitchen, I saw my Mom heating up a Lean Cuisine pizza. Hmmm. Maybe there is something to this wizard thing. But I think I need more practice.

A visit to the Zoo

Dear world,

We have heard so much about the Memphis Zoo. Everyone loves it and its always rated one of the best zoos in the U.S. So Rosy and I wanted to visit the Memphis Zoo. Well we got as far as the front entrance, and then we weren't allowed. Well, at least we got to see the big sculpture animals. They were pretty cool. Maybe the Zoo will have a special day for dogs like the Memphis Botanic Garden is having in August. I think at minimum I should at least get to see the Bears.

Hammock Day

Dear world,
I heard today was hammock day. Well since I don't have a hammock, I figured I would celebrate the day by imagining what it must be like to have one. I made sure mine had a canopy to keep out the sun. I also used my imagination to have the temperature outside be 65 degrees with a nice breeze. I asked Rosy to bring me a nice cold drink and some cookies. She refused and told me that she was not a figment of my imagination.

Happy Hammock Day!

Hot weather walks

Dear world,
Mom likes to take us on a 2 mile walk around the golf course. But now that it is so hot, I don't like to go all the way around. So when I get tired, Mom calls Dad. He comes with the car, brings water, takes the poop bags and takes me home. Usually, Mom continues walking with Rosy who likes to walk far or carried if she gets too tired.. Don't we have a great Mom and Dad? or should I say dog walker, chauffeur and valet. Maybe they should wear uniforms.

Mission Commander Bear

Dear world,

Today is the anniversary of the day man first walked on the moon in 1969! In honor of that, Mom gave me an astronaut Bear. Of course it got me to thinking how cool it must be to be an astronaut. So I looked into what it would take to become one. Well, I am a U.S. Citizen and I think I would do OK on a physical exam (maybe I need to diet a little more.). I would need to go to college and study math or science. I like both those subjects. Three years of experience - or get a doctorate. I would do the latter. Then 1000 hours of flying-- how fun would that be! The only problem is that I don't meet the height requirements. You have to be at least 64" tall. Bummer.

Chess Game

Dear world,

The other day when looking for a ball in a closet I found a Chess board. I always heard that Chess is an interesting game, so I asked Rosy if she wanted to play. She agreed. So I googled how to set up the board. Then we read about strategies, tactics and rules of the game. We were both a bit confused. I suggested we should first learn how to play checkers. She suggested we just play ball. I agreed.

Family Cycling

Dear world,
I heard Mom and Dad talking about getting bicycles for themselves. Then yesterday I was looking through the Fetch Dog catalog and found the perfect items for Rosy and me to join Mom and Dad in their new endeavor. Rosy can ride in a sport basket in back of Mom's butt. Then I can be in the trailer behind Rosy. So bicycling can be such a wonderful family activity. I cant wait to tell Mom and Dad.

Soccer sister

Dear world,

Rosy is so inspired by the US women's soccer team. So when Mom wanted to play ball with us outside, Rosy asked for a soccer ball! She said she wants to start practicing so she can make the US team one day. I told her she may not meet the height and weight requirements. Anyway, Rosy will be glued to the TV this afternoon watching the Women's World Cup cheering her new heroes! GO USA!

Colonel Reb

Dear world,

The University of Mississippi, better known as Ole Miss, changed its mascot back in October. So I was a little surprised on my walk when I saw the old mascot- Colonel Reb. There are a lot of people that still wish that he was the mascot. Now mind you, I have no connection to the school, but I am very happy with the new mascot that is a black bear. I think once they get to know the black bear, they will end up loving him. From my experience, that is just the way it is with Bears.

Briefcase BBQ

Dear world,

Recently, I read about this thing called a The Briefcase Barbecue. So of course I was intrigued. I told my Mom maybe that is something she could get me. She said briefcases are for people that go to work. Hmmm. So it got me to thinking. Maybe I should go to work then. I could carry my briefcase into work, have a BBQ when I get there and then go home for a nap. As usual, Mom rolled her eyes. She said that's not the way work works. Oh.

Happy Bastille Day!

Dear world,
Today is Bastille Day. I googled what it was and learned that it commemorates the storming of the Bastille and the birth of the French Republic. So even though I am not French I like France and see no reason why I shouldn't celebrate too! So I decided to dress as a French Retriever and pick a rose for my sis toy poodle Rosy. (Maybe Rosy is French since she is a poodle.)

Joyeux Le Quatorze Juillet ! (That is Happy Bastille Day to us English Speaking dogs!)

Bear vs. Food

Dear world,

I was watching the show Man vs. Food. Adam was in Memphis at The Kooky Canuck taking the Kookamonga Challenge. In one hour, he had to eat the Kookamonga Burger which is 4lbs of hamburger, 2 lbs of bun and 1 1/2 lbs of lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese... 7 1/2 lbs total! ! He didn't win, the burger did. I don't think I would have a problem. I would like to take on the Kookamonga Challenge.

Duck encounter

Dear world,
I often take a walk past this small lake. Over the last month I have seen a Mommy duck and her babies swimming in it. They were always too far away to say hello. So yesterday I saw them on the grass. I was so excited that maybe I could finally get to meet them. So I ran over to them. Not sure why, but Mommy Duck scurried her babies into the water and swam away. Bummer! I just wanted to introduce myself and welcome the baby ducks into the neighborhood! What did she think i was going to do?

Pants down

Dear world,

Yesterday I went across the street to see this little man in my neighbor's driveway. It was very strange. He was very well dressed, except his pants were down. He seemed to smell something bad. And considering he was holding an empty toilet paper dispenser, I thought maybe he had pooped somewhere. So I sniffed around and didn't find anything. I guess his Mom picked it up. But why didn't she pull his pants back up?

Hot Dog

Dear world,

July is National Hot Dog month. At first I thought that was so great, especially when Dad grilled hot dogs and gave us some. But then I thought more about it. It has been so hot here. So when I go outside I am always hot. Which makes me a hot dog. Is that why July is Hot Dog Month?

Empty Lot

Dear world,

Almost everyday we walk by this empty lot. Lately, they have started preparing to build a house. Last week they built this structure toward the front of the lot. Mom said "I wonder what that is". I told her I thought it was quite obvious. The new family must have a guard dog. So that is the Guard DogHouse. I mean, what else could it be?

Grizz Girl

Dear world,
The other day I talked to Rosy about coming with me to Memphis Grizzlies Summer Hoops camp (blogpost 6/11). She said she wasn't interested in learning basketball, but she did have interest in becoming a Grizz girl. I told her that unfortunately she has to wait until she gets older since you have to be 18 to audition. She said that is not a problem since type of years was not specified and she is way over 18 in dog years. Then I said they also require you to be a high school graduate. She said she has already started studying for a high school equivalency test. I hope they make those outfits in her size.

Rule Broken

Dear world,

Mom and Dad always had a rule in the house. No dogs on furniture, except bed. And then Rosy came along. She gets to lay on the couch, sit on the club chair, the kitchen chair and any other chair her pretty little head wants to! I understand that she is small and doesn't shed, but I still didn't think it was fair. So when Mom and Dad went out of town, I decided I wanted to lay on the couch too. So I did, and Mom and Dad didn't know. Then yesterday Mom and Dad came home when I was sleeping...Busted! But they thought it was so sweet that Rosy and I were bonding. Perfect. Now I can be a Couch Beartato.

Barrister Bear

Dear world,

Mom watched UK Law & Order the other day on BBC. I guess now that she has the U.S. ones memorized, she needed some new episodes. Anyway, it got me to thinking. Maybe I could be a barrister. I never really thought about being a lawyer, but seeing UK lawyers in their hair and robes with British accents, is very inspiring to me. Yes, I think I will look further into how to become Barrister Bear.

Fourth Burger

Dear world,

Dad did get the hint and he grilled me burgers ! He asked how I like my hamburger. I said big and delicious. Then he asked what kind of cheese. It was a tough choice but I chose American since it was July 4th. Then after Mom and Dad finished eating, Dad came over to give Rosy and me our burgers. I know I should be very grateful for what I got, but it was missing bacon, lettuce, pickles, and a bun. I guess next time I need to specify when Dad asks how I like my burger.

Have a cool July 4th!

Dear world,
Today is Independence Day in the U.S., better known as the Fourth of July. It is commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Lots of celebrating with fireworks, barbecues, picnics, and parades. Since so many activities are outdoors, I suggest everyone do what they can to stay cool. You can start by trying to look cool like us.

Con and Crete Fourth

Dear world,

The other day, my kitty friends Sammi and Raven showed me a picture of their stone cat dressed for fourth of July. It made me feel bad that I did not think about my stone dogs. So here they are Con and Crete, posing with their July Fourth garb. Rather dapper, dont ya think?

Blog Towel

Dear world,

My sis Sydne's friend Jamie tweeted this picture. I am not sure why she would want her towel on a blog, but I thought since I like Jamie, I would do what she asked for. But it got me to thinking, a towel may be a very good way to communicate. I use towels often for a bath, when it rains or when I go swimming. So what if I put a personal message on a towel and also tweeted it? I wonder if it would work. We'll see.

Weekend Barbecue

Dear world,

Its July 4th weekend. So that is supposed to mean barbecues. I thought I would give Dad a hint and wait by the grill in my Fourth of July hat. I wonder how long I will have to wait. I hope not too long. Cause even the smell of grilling burgers can't stop me from running inside if the fireworks start going off.

Gus's Fried Chicken

Dear world,

When my human brother Stephen visited recently, Dad and Mom took him to Gus's Fried Chicken. I have heard it is one of the best fried chicken places in the whole US! Stephen and Dad went on and on about how great it was. Mom, not being a big chicken person liked it, but raved about their coleslaw. I hope one day I get to go to Gus's, at least for take out. I would love to eat fried chicken with Dad and Stephen. Mom's on her own with the slaw.
